Story
Ago belongs to Jarka — our friend, with whom we founded the association. And he is a horse who came to her through a sad ending.
We knew Ago long before he became a member of our herd. There was a riding school whose horses Milka and I learned to ride on — and he was one of them.
Then the school closed. Suddenly there was nobody to sort the horses out.
Two of them ended up with us. They were here for about a year — we looked after them and everyone waited to see how it would turn out. In the end the owners took the mare and foal back and sold Ago. Jarka bought him.
So Ago stayed. He was ridden for a while — but it soon became clear that something was wrong with his front legs. That was the end of that. A riding horse that cannot carry a rider is suddenly a horse with no use — and those are the hardest horses of all to find a home for.
Ago had one. He is here in the herd, more or less retired, and nobody wants anything from him.
We write this because it did not only happen to us. When a place where horses lived comes to an end, animals are left that nobody planned for. What happens to them depends on whether someone speaks up. For Ago, Jarka spoke up.
How Ago is doing
Ago is twelve and has been in the herd since 2022. He has a problem with his front legs that cannot be cured — only kept from getting worse. That is exactly what pasture is better for than a stable: the horse walks as much as he wants and does not stand in one place all day.
He is not ridden. He does not have to be.

Would you like to help?
We do not collect for Ago. He belongs to Jarka, one of the three founders of our association — he is her horse and she covers his costs. Collecting money for him through the association would not be right, even though Ago is in our herd and we look after him together with her.
If you have taken to him, you can contribute to the work of the association and so help horses who are worse off.
If his legs ever needed more expensive treatment, we would run a separate appeal for it — with a specific goal, an amount and a full account of where it went. The way we always do.

What we need right now →
A light aluminium shovel for mucking out, a corrugated pipe for a reservoir, LDPE hoses for a water supply, concrete utility poles. Maybe you know where to find them.
