Story
Čilko is the son of Jaška — the one-eyed mare who was struck off the breeding register because of her injured eye. He was born here in the spring of 2023 and has been in the herd from his first day.
Jaška belongs to our neighbour Marek. Čilko was agreed in advance — the foal is ours.
And with that his story is more or less over. Nobody mistreated him. Nobody sold him. He has never stood tied up, he has never been in need, he has no scars and no diagnosis. There is nothing to write about him that would tug at anyone's heart.
He grew up in the herd and the older horses brought him up. They do it better than we do — they teach a foal where the boundaries are, where his place is and what is not done. No human can do it the way they can.
We write him up here because this is what the whole thing is about. Most of our horses only reached a peaceful life after going through something — the forest, a dark stable, being kept for sale. Čilko has had it from the start and did not have to pay for it with anything.
We try to give it to him as well as we know how. And we will go on writing about him — a horse doing well is news too. In fact it is the best news we can bring.
How Čilko is doing
Čilko is three. He is healthy, he has his place in the herd and we want nothing from him yet — at this age a horse should still be growing, not working.
That is the whole entry. With some horses it is the best news we can write.

Would you like to help?
We do not collect for Čilko directly. He has never been in need and nothing is wrong with him. We look after him ourselves.
If you would like to help, contribute to the work of the association. That money pays for treating the horses who need it at the time, and for hay for the whole herd — so some of it always reaches him too.

What we need right now →
A light aluminium shovel for mucking out, a corrugated pipe for a reservoir, LDPE hoses for a water supply, concrete utility poles. Maybe you know where to find them.
Thank you →
